Heavy Rain Delays Edo Central Governorship Elections, Voters Left Waiting

The Edo Central governorship election faced significant setbacks on Saturday as persistent rain delayed the distribution and arrival of electoral materials across multiple polling units.

As of 7:50 a.m., many polling stations in key areas such as Irrua and Ekpoma had yet to receive officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or any necessary materials. Frustrated voters who braved the weather to cast their ballots were left waiting in uncertainty.

“We’ve been here since morning, but it feels like the election isn’t happening today,” complained a voter at the Ogboji polling unit, as others echoed similar frustrations.

Despite strict movement restrictions enforced by security operatives, the heavy downpour kept many residents indoors, further reducing voter turnout in this crucial region.

Reports from ad hoc officials also hinted at dissatisfaction regarding payments, compounding the challenges and creating a sense of confusion about the electoral process.

As rains continued into the day, concerns mounted over the potential impact on the governorship election in Edo Central.
