Boko Haram Attack Puts Maiduguri In Darkness

Boko Haram terrorists have once again attacked a key facility, destroying the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330 Kilovolt transmission line early on Sunday morning bringing a blackout to Maiduguri, capital of Borno State following the recent flood in the city.

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the attack took place around 2 a.m. when the insurgents used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to damage the line.

This attack has plunged Maiduguri and nearby areas into a blackout, raising concerns about the group’s ongoing targeting of essential infrastructure.

The transmission line had just been repaired on September 4, 2024, following a previous attack that disrupted electricity in the region.

In a post on X, Makama highlighted the persistent nature of these attacks, noting the difficulties in protecting crucial infrastructure from such threats.

He wrote, “The attackers used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to blow up the facility around 2 a.m., plunging Maiduguri and surrounding areas back into darkness. This marks a repeated targeting of the critical infrastructure by insurgents.”

As of now, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet released an official statement regarding the recent destruction and the probable duration of the blackout.
