Edo: APC, PDP Clash Over Alleged Vote Manipulation

Published

on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected the results of the governorship election for Egor and Akoko Edo local governments.

These areas were claimed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a press conference, PDP representative Osagbovo Iyoha accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulating the results to favor the APC. He mentioned that there were major issues in the process of collating the votes.

Iyoha also said that the collation center was moved away from the council headquarters, which raised doubts about the fairness of the process. He stated that PDP actually won in the area but claimed their agents were not allowed into the collation center, while only APC representatives were given access.

He further alleged that the number of votes in Akoko Edo was higher than what was recorded by the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), indicating possible manipulation of the results.

In response, the acting chairman of APC, Jarret Tenabe, dismissed these accusations about rigging of the results in Egor. He insisted that the announced results truly reflect the choice of the people. He also said that any issues raised in Akoko Edo were resolved during the vote counting process and that the results matched what was recorded by the BVAS.

As INEC continues to collate the final results at its head office in Benin, both parties remain firm in their positions, keeping tensions high as they await the final outcome of the election.
