Osimhen Shines As Galatasaray End Fenerbahce’s 32-Match Unbeaten Run

Galatasaray delivered a stunning performance on Saturday night, defeating Fenerbahce 3-1 and snapping their 32-match unbeaten streak in the Turkish Super Lig.

The highly anticipated Istanbul derby also marked José Mourinho’s debut as Fenerbahce’s head coach, but the night ended in disappointment for the Portuguese manager.

The match saw Galatasaray take early control when Fenerbahce’s Dominik Livakovic scored an own goal in the 20th minute, giving their rivals an unexpected lead. Eight minutes later, Dries Mertens doubled the advantage with a clinical finish, sending Galatasaray into halftime with a commanding 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Gabriel Davi Gomes made it 3-0 for Galatasaray in the 59th minute, putting the game beyond Fenerbahce’s reach. Although Edin Dzeko pulled one back with a penalty four minutes later, it proved too little, too late, as Mourinho’s men struggled to mount a comeback.

A standout moment came from Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, who provided a world-class assist for Mertens’ goal. Although Osimhen didn’t score, his playmaking ability shone through, marking his second assist in as many matches since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.

The win solidified Galatasaray’s position at the top of the Super Lig table, while Mourinho will be left to reflect on his team’s defensive frailties as he looks to rebuild and regroup in the weeks ahead. Despite his tactical efforts, Fenerbahce’s hopes of winning the derby were dashed by a dominant Galatasaray side.

Osimhen, who took four shots during the match, continues to impress as a key figure for Galatasaray, contributing both on and off the ball.
