Crayon Drug Addiction

Nigerian singer, Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has shared his past struggles with drug addiction. He revealed that he nearly lost his life and ended up in a psychiatric hospital due to his condition.

In an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon talked about a particular incident that occurred in front of his record label’s office. He explained how his colleague, fellow artiste Rema, came to his aid during this difficult time.

Crayon recalled the episode, saying, “One day, my manager saw me and was shocked by how I looked. He asked what was wrong, and I told him I had only smoked weed. Then I started acting crazy and walked barefoot to the Mavin studio. I feel blessed because no one recorded me during this episode. If they had, it would have affected my confidence, career, and everything.”

He continued, “When I reached the Mavin studio gate, I just sat down and felt exhausted. I took off my shirt and smashed my iPhone. That’s when calls started coming in. Rema, BabyFresy, and others were calling and asking what was wrong. I told them I was just tired.”

Crayon described how Rema rushed to the scene with a stick, ready to defend him. “Rema came with a big stick, prepared to fight. I was lying on his lap, and he told me, ‘Bro, trust me, once you get through this, you’ll come out even stronger. This is the final battle you’re fighting.’ I didn’t recognize anyone at that moment, but I remember his words clearly. It was so bad that I almost jumped out of a moving car. It was similar to what happened to Mohbad.”

He went on to explain that he was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki to receive help. After the ordeal, he returned and went straight to Don Jazzy’s house to recover.
