President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his declaration as winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.

Okpebholo was officially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, having emerged victorious over his opponents.

In a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the APC leadership at the national and state levels, as well as the party’s governors, for their efforts in securing the victory. He acknowledged that the outcome of the election reflected the people’s trust in the APC’s vision, commitment to progressive ideals, economic reforms, and efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerians.

President Tinubu advised Okpebholo to approach his victory with humility and to see it as a mandate to serve the people of Edo. He urged the newly elected governor to extend an olive branch to his political opponents and work towards uniting the state to foster growth and development.

Furthermore, the President commended all the candidates who participated in the election, noting that their involvement contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. He emphasized that peaceful and orderly political contests, such as the one held in Edo, showcase Nigeria’s stability and democratic maturity.

Tinubu also encouraged those dissatisfied with the election results to pursue their grievances through the legal system, while praising the people of Edo for their peaceful conduct throughout the voting process.

In his statement, the President applauded INEC and the security agencies for ensuring a smooth, peaceful, and largely incident-free election. He reiterated that INEC’s performance underscored its dedication to organizing credible elections in Nigeria.
