The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, stated that the visit by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to his refinery was meant to create embarrassment.

GWG.ng Recalls that In January, EFCC officials visited the head office of Dangote Refinery in Lagos for an investigation.

During an interview with Bloomberg TV in New York on Monday, Dangote shared that he was already in communication with the EFCC leadership, assuring them he would come to their office. However, he was taken aback when EFCC officials unexpectedly appeared at his refinery.

“We’re going to come to your office, and before we knew it, they (EFCC) were already in our office. They visited the office and they didn’t talk to anybody, they did not arrest anybody, they just came and left just to register an embarrassment and that’s all,” Dangote explained.

Dangote also highlighted that his company paid the highest amount of taxes to the federal government in 2023, surpassing the entire banking industry. He emphasized that his company operates with utmost caution due to its prominent position in Nigeria.

“The way we run our own organization, we’re the highest tax-paying corporation in Nigeria. Our company paid in 2023 more taxes than the entire banking industry, and that is why whatever we do, because we know that, yes, we’re up there, anybody, whether it’s a new government or whatever happens, we’re the first. So that’s why our own behavior has to be 100% clean,” he stated.

Dangote further mentioned that his company is transparent in its dealings and has no issues when questioned about its taxes or operations. “That’s settled and if any time somebody wants to ask us, okay, fine, what about your own tax, what about this, fine, we don’t have any issue,” he added.
