A female Nigerian soldier, Private Ruth Ogunleye, who was discharged from the army, has called on the Nigerian Army to publicly release the findings of the investigation that led to her dismissal.

Ruth Ogunleye, who made serious accusations of sexual harassment against a senior officer, Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, believes that making the investigation report public would clarify the truth about the situation.

Earlier in January 2024, Ruth Ogunleye took to her TikTok account to accuse Colonel Abdulkareem, along with two other senior officers, Colonel G.S. Ogor and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo, of mistreating her. She claimed that Abdulkareem made multiple attempts to assault her after she rejected his advances.

According to her, these officers injected her with medication against her will, forced her out of her home, and confined her in a psychiatric hospital for several months.

Following her accusations, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, launched a thorough investigation into the matter. After several months of inquiry, the Nigerian Army announced that Ruth Ogunleye had been dismissed from service.

The Army’s Director of Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed that the investigation concluded that Colonel Abdulkareem did not sexually harass Ruth Ogunleye as she had claimed. According to him, the findings were based on an objective evaluation of the evidence.

In response to this announcement, Ogunleye once again took to TikTok, requesting that the full report of the investigation be shared with the public.

She expressed her gratitude to the Nigerian Army for giving attention to her case but insisted that transparency would help the public understand the real reason behind her dismissal. Ogunleye stated that she would appreciate it if the results of the investigation were published on all media platforms, similar to how her dismissal was publicized.

Her Full Statement: “Evening everyone, I’m Ruth Ogunleye, and before I say anything in this video, I want to say a big thank you to the Nigerian Army, and to the Army Speak Man, Brigadier Onyema Chukwu, for taking his time to post me on all social media platforms, newspapers, radio stations.

It’s not easy, that’s to show how special I am, that’s to show how powerful I am. I really appreciate, I think I need a standing ovation for that.

It’s no longer a news, that I was discharged out of the Army, 15th June, 2024. I want to humbly request that the Nigerian Army publish the outcome of the investigation that led to my discharge, on all social media platforms, including radio stations, all channels.

January 9th, 2024, I came on social media to complain on how I was harassed by Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, Brigadier General I.B. Solebo, Colonel G.S. Ogor, how I was raped, how I was injected with Lactate Injection, how I was put inside casket, how Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem pointed gun at me.

How Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem handcuffed me and kept me inside his office for some days. I also want to beg the Nigerian Army to post the outcome of the investigation on all social media platforms, so that the whole wide world will know what really transpired between myself and Abdulkareem and what led to my discharge.

I would be very, very grateful if my request, if you people considered my request, if you guys approved my request.

I also want it to be published on all social media platforms, same way I was published that I was dismissed. And I don’t have enough to say in this video.

On behalf of I and my family, we are saying a big thank you for posting my name, Oguleye Ruth.

At the mention of my name, everybody began to speak in different tongues. Thank you very much. I really appreciate you sir. Thank you. God bless you.”
