Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday arrested the immediate past governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku over allegations bordering on an alleged N27bn fraud.

According to sources Darius Ishaku was arrested at his Abuja residence on Friday and taken to the headquarters of the EFCC for further interrogation.

It could not be immediately confirmed if he slept overnight in the holding facilities of the commission as he was reportedly taken for interrogations.

GWG.ng reports that Ishaku was elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. He left office on May 29, 2023. Before then, he had served as a minister in the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

A source from the EFCC revealed that Ishaku faces at least 15-count charges, including criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds.

“We have been gathering evidence for some time now, and his inability to account for certain financial activities during his administration raised major red flags.

“The former governor is currently in our custody. He has been under investigation since leaving office, and there have been numerous instances of financial malfeasance attributed to him.”

The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest of Darius Ishaku but declined further comment.
