“Do Not Put Fire In My House”- Makinde Begs Wike (Video)
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to refrain from instigating unrest in Oyo State.
This plea follows Wike’s recent threat to disrupt any Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor supporting Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in seizing control of the party’s structure in Rivers State.
Wike made the inflammatory remarks during a PDP state congress held in Port Harcourt, where he vowed to resist any attempt to wrest control of the party from him and his allies.
“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us,” Wike declared. “I hear some governors say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.”
Wike specifically targeted Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and promised to give sleepless nights to any governor who interferes with PDP affairs in Rivers State.
In response, during a gathering hosted by the Ijaw World Congress in Port Harcourt, Governor Makinde called on Wike to maintain peace, especially in Oyo State. Makinde, who was present at the event to show solidarity with Wike, acknowledged the former Rivers State governor’s contributions to his state but urged him to avoid causing disruption.
“I came to Rivers to identify with my brother and the celebrant of today, Nyesom Wike,” Makinde said. “Yesterday, I brought him a peace offering because he had been boasting that he would set fire to some states. I told him, ‘Please, don’t set fire in Oyo State.'”
Makinde also praised Wike for his developmental achievements during his eight-year tenure as Rivers State governor, noting the respect he commands due to his work for his constituents.
“Let me say on behalf of my fellow governors and past governors that you have done well for your people. Since I arrived, I have seen the projects you completed during your tenure as governor,” Makinde concluded.
