El-Rufai Ready To Swear With Quran He Didn’t Steal

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has once again denied accusations he stole state funds during his time in office.

Recall that the Kaduna State House of Assembly had previously claimed that El-Rufai’s administration misappropriated over N423 billion.

El-Rufai and his supporters insist that these allegations are part of a witch hunt orchestrated by the Assembly and the state government. In a recent appearance on Freedom Radio, Kaduna, El-Rufai stated that he entered politics to serve the people, not to seek wealth or steal public money. He expressed that he was satisfied with his life before becoming governor, and he is perplexed by the accusations of financial mismanagement, especially since no specific instances have been cited.

The former governor mentioned that he is willing to take an oath with the Quran, just as former governors and current leaders have done, to prove that he has not misappropriated public funds. He emphasized his commitment to public service, stating, “I joined politics only to serve the people of Kaduna State; I didn’t come to look for money.”

He expressed gratitude for being content with what he had before his governorship but pointed out that his administration has faced unfounded allegations without any evidence of where the money went or who was responsible for the misappropriation.

El-Rufai also criticized the ongoing investigations targeting his associates, who have been summoned by the ICPC and EFCC, suggesting that the goal is to damage their reputations. He shared that he had prayed for guidance and justice, stating, “I had already prayed two Raka’at on Friday night, leaving everything to God.” He said he found the situation both surprising and distressing but remains focused on seeking justice from God.

He advised against commenting further on the allegations, as he has instructed his lawyers to take legal action to protect his reputation. Currently, El-Rufai is keeping busy with his usual activities, such as reading and writing, while continuing to support the people in meaningful ways.

El-Rufai said it was possible to serve the public after leaving government. He reiterated that he and his supporters are committed to public service, distancing themselves from those who enter politics to enrich themselves. “That is not our intention,” he stated, expressing hope for development in the community and faith that “God knows that, and the people with positive minds know that too,” El-Rufai said in denying claims he stole Kaduna State funds.
