Frustrated Nollywood Actress Warns Fans On Independence Day Greeting
As Nigeria marks her 64th Independence Day, Tuesday, October 1st, Nollywood actress Adaora Ukoh has issued a stern warning to her fans and followers.
Taking to Instagram, Adaora Ukoh made it clear that she does not want to receive any “Happy Independence” messages.
In her post, Adaora jokingly threatened to block anyone who disregards her request, adding that a simple “Happy New Month” greeting would suffice instead.
She wrote:
“Please, no matter what you do in life, do not send me Happy Independence tomorrow, I beg you. I will block whoever does so. Happy New Month will do. Public Service Announcement. Let me be the first to wish my Insta family Happy New Month peeps.”
The refusal by Adaora Ukoh to celebrate Independence Day openly mirrors the frustrations many Nigerians have voiced over the country’s current economic situation, which has been challenging since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office.
Recently, several other Nollywood stars have publicly expressed their concerns about the worsening economic climate:
Destiny Etiko lamented the skyrocketing fuel prices and questioned the effectiveness of protests meant to address economic hardships.
Lizzy Gold noted the extreme inflation, with petrol prices reaching N1,000 per litre and food becoming nearly unaffordable, urging the President to act.
Saidi Balogun questioned whether Nigeria had any functional price control mechanisms, stressing that inflation is spiraling out of control.
Caroline Danjuma ex-wife of billionaire Musa Danjuma, shared her frustrations over the rising cost of food during a recent trip to the market, wondering how Nigerians are managing to cope.
Nkechi Blessing revealed that she spent N150,000 on just a few food items at the Sunday market in Ogba, asking what the future holds for Nigeria’s economy.
Yewande Adekola Abiodun also shared her distress over the price of a bag of Garri, now sold for N80,000, a sharp increase from what was once considered a staple food for low-income earners.
As the nation reflects on its 64 years of independence, the rising cost of living and economic hardship have cast a shadow over the celebrations for many Nigerians, including Adaora Ukoh and her fellow Nollywood stars.
