Basketmouth Clears Air On Beef With Wizkid

Award-winning Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has addressed the growing misconception surrounding his relationship with Grammy-winning artiste Wizkid after the singer seemingly took a jab at him earlier in the year.

The drama began when Wizkid, known for his hit track Ojuelegba, stirred up controversy by shading fellow artiste Davido in a series of online outbursts. In one of these, Wizkid appeared to reference Basketmouth, mocking Davido’s former lawyer, Bobo, for supposedly dressing like the comedian.

Wizkid’s remark quickly gained attention, but Basketmouth responded in his signature humorous style. Sharing a video of himself shopping at billionaire fashion designer Seyi Vodi’s clothing store in Abuja, the comedian playfully modeled a sleek matching black shirt and trousers, sarcastically asking his followers if the outfit would meet Wizkid’s approval.

Amidst the buzz, a fan took to Basketmouth’s comment section, suggesting that Wizkid’s comment wasn’t directed at him. The fan believed that Wizkid was instead making fun of Davido’s lawyer for dressing too casually for a professional, and not necessarily shading Basketmouth’s style as a comedian.

“My brother, I don’t think Wizkid was throwing shades at you. I think he was saying a lawyer dressing like you, a comedian, is not professional. In my life, I have never seen a lawyer tinting hair and beards before. Entertainers are allowed to rock any look,” the fan commented.

Responding to the fan, Basketmouth clarified that he understood Wizkid’s intent and confirmed that there was no bad blood between them. He explained that the singer was “his guy” and that he was merely using the situation to “catch some cruise” and promote his upcoming movie.

“Oh! Of course I know, na. He’s my guy 💯 but I have a movie to promote. So why not catch some cruise with the misconception most people had about it?” Basketmouth replied.

GWG.ng reports that this isn’t the first time Basketmouth has been caught in the crossfire of Wizkid’s online antics. Earlier in June, when Wizkid threw subtle shade at Davido’s marriage to Chioma, Basketmouth also chimed in, humorously noting how Davido’s wedding had dominated social media, leaving Wizkid’s post largely ignored. His comments drew mixed reactions, with some fans criticizing him for stepping into the ongoing feud.

However, Basketmouth remained unfazed, reposting a fan’s defense of his comments. The fan explained that, as a comedian, Basketmouth was merely making a lighthearted joke and questioned why people were taking it so seriously, adding that even Wizkid would probably laugh at the post.

In true comedic fashion, Basketmouth has turned a potential misunderstanding into a moment of humor and promotion, showing once again that he knows how to navigate the entertainment industry with wit and style.
