Tinubu Speaks On 2027 Political Ambition
President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that his current focus is not on the 2027 general elections but on revitalizing Nigeria’s economy and improving the lives of its citizens.
His remarks came during a strategic meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Lagos, marking the party’s first major assembly in the South-West since his election victory in 2023.
The event, hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Victoria Island, provided a platform for President Tinubu to reiterate his administration’s commitment to the nation’s progress, especially in the face of current economic challenges.
Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, emphasized that while his administration has made tough decisions, these choices were necessary for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity. He called for patience, assuring the public that better days lie ahead.
“Mr. President has asked me to convey his message,” Gbajabiamila said. “He knows the decisions he has made have been difficult, but he sees the light at the end of the tunnel. There will come a time when we will all be thankful for his choices.”
The Chief of Staff further relayed the ambition of Tinubu not being on the 2027 elections: “The President wants Nigerians to know that he is not thinking about the next election but rather the next generation. Every era produces a leader for its time, and this is the time for a courageous leader.”
Gbajabiamila highlighted the immense challenges facing the country, explaining that the full extent of these issues only becomes clear once in office. He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s dedication to the masses, noting that the President shares in the pain Nigerians are feeling but remains resolute in his conviction.
“For those who know him well, Mr. President has an undeniable love for the people,” Gbajabiamila added. “As citizens voice their concerns, he feels their pain. Yet, when a leader has strong beliefs in what he is doing, he pursues it relentlessly.”
The message from Tinubu’s administration comes amid growing public frustration over the current economic situation, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and other reforms. Despite these difficulties, the President’s team has urged Nigerians to trust in his leadership, promising that the tough decisions will eventually lead to a more stable and prosperous nation.
