How My Fight With Fubara Started, Wike Finally Opens Up
Nyesom Wike has finally opened up on the origin of the fight with Governor Simi Fubara.
Nyesom Wike has finally opened up on the reason behind his fight with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State tracing it to the governor’s attempt to instigate the impeachment of the speaker of the State House of Assembly.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State and incumbent minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT denied any link with the wanton violence that led to the burning of the secretariats of three local government areas in the state.
He said that the violence should be condemned by every reasonable man.
He, however, expressed his opposition to the inauguration of a panel of inquiry by the governor into the violence.
While scoffing at suggestions that he made requests of billions from Governor Fubara, he said that the fight with Fubara arose from the governor’s alleged plot to remove the speaker in the House of Assembly before it split into two.
He said:
“Has Fubara ever told you that I said come and give me money? The point is that he plotted a coup against the speaker of the State House of Assembly and the thing boomeranged against him.”
Asked on what can bring peace to Rivers State, the FCT minister insisted that only adherence to the rule of law will bring peace. He also lampooned the castigation of judges who give contrary judgments by supporters of Governor Fubara as he said that his lawyers regularly adviced him and his supporters never to abuse judges who give contrary judgments.
“For the sake of peace, the only thing that can bring peace is rule of law and it is only Gov Fubara that can do that,” Wike said in laying down his conditions to stop the fight with Fubara.
