NCC Gives Strong Warning On Hotspot Use

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a strong advisory to telecom subscribers to guard them against infiltration of their hotspots.

The notice from the NCC particularly urged data users with hotspots to be cautious when sharing their mobile phone hotspots with others. In a notice posted on its official Facebook page on Monday, the regulatory body highlighted the risks of unauthorized hotspot access, which can lead to rapid data reduction and possibly lead to security threats for the hotspot owners.

GWG.ng reports that the NCC warned that if subscribers notice their data usage increasing unexpectedly, it could be a result of unauthorized users accessing their hotspot. The commission’s message aims to raise awareness about the potential dangers of sharing mobile internet connections without proper control.

To prevent data loss and enhance security, the NCC recommended several precautions:

1. Be cautious when sharing hotspot credentials.

2. Regularly monitor data usage to detect unusual activity.

3. Use strong, secure passwords for hotspot access.
