Controversy As Regina Daniels Shares Heartfelt Birthday Message To ‘Agemate’ Stepson
Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has found herself at the center of public scrutiny following a heartfelt birthday message she posted for her stepson, Amir Nwoko, as he celebrated his 18th birthday.
Amir, the son of Regina’s husband Ned Nwoko and his fourth wife, Laila Charani, received a touching tribute from the actress on social media. Regina shared photos of Amir and praised his growth over the years in an emotional Instagram post.
In the post, Regina expressed her pride in Amir, describing him as a “handsome, intelligent, compassionate, and humble young man.” She offered prayers for his protection and success, and encouraged him to make the family proud.
“Happy 18th birthday to my adorable big boy,” Regina wrote. “Watching you grow into a handsome, intelligent, compassionate, and humble young man gladdens my heart. I pray that God continues to protect and watch over you in Jesus’ name. Like I always say, all you have to do is make the family proud. Love you son @amir.2viral. Trust your aunty to have a gift that will make you smile.”
Amir responded warmly, showing his appreciation for Regina’s role in his life. “Thank you mummy Regina, I appreciate everything that you have done for me in my life up until today,” he wrote.
Despite the affectionate exchange, Regina’s post drew criticism from some of her followers. Many questioned her statement about having “watched” Amir grow, given the close age gap between them. Regina, 24, married Ned Nwoko in 2019, when Amir was 13 years old.
One critic, Motherwell Collins, mocked Amir’s use of “mummy” to refer to Regina, saying, “You dey call small girl mummy. If nor be say she marry your dad, you fit toast her for road.”
Another user, Ferugson Igwe, questioned the appropriateness of Regina’s comment: “Watching him grow? 22 years and 18 years no be age grade?”
However, not all responses were negative. Some followers came to Regina’s defense, arguing that her role in Amir’s life justified her words. One supporter, Osibekee, wrote, “She is a mother, and if she addresses him as son, it is still correct. She has been married for 5 years, meaning he was 13, and now 18, isn’t that enough watching him grow?”
Another fan, Doose, pleaded for the criticism to stop, saying, “Kai, when una go allow Regina Daniels breathe.”
While Regina Daniels continues to receive both criticism and support, her birthday message remains a reflection of the close relationship she shares with her stepson, despite the mixed reactions from the public.
