Man Trying To Stop Fight Dies After Getting Deadly Punch

A man trying to break up a fight in Adamawa State has tragically lost his life.

Markus Dali stepped in to stop a physical altercation between two men, Barka Yama and Alex Tari, in Sina Kwande, a community in Michika Local Government Area. Unfortunately, instead of calming the situation, Markus became a victim himself when Barka allegedly punched him, causing a fatal injury.

The Adamawa State Police Command arrested 32-year-old Barka Yama and charged him with culpable homicide. The police presented Barka in front of Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola. ASP Francis Audu, the police prosecutor, explained that on August 30, 2024, while Barka and Alex were fighting, Markus tried to intervene.

However, Barka struck Markus with a blow that knocked him unconscious. Markus was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by a doctor.

In court, Barka pleaded guilty to the charge. The prosecutor then requested the court to remand Barka in custody while they forward the case details to the Department of Public Prosecution for further legal advice. Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda approved the request, ordering that Barka be kept in a correctional facility.
