Senate President Godswill Akpabio has decried reports of an impeachment plot against him
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has dismissed reports of an impeachment plot against him as the figment of the imagination of the purveyors of the news.
GWG.ng reports that Akpabio dismissed the report following online report to the effect that the Department of State Services, DSS had taken over the premises of the National Assembly to prevent the alleged impeachment of the Senate President.
Reacting to the reports during proceedings on Tuesday, Akpabio cautioned the general public to be wary of such reports. Akpabio said the impeachment rumours did not bear relationship with the peace he said is holding in the 10th National Assembly.
The President of the Senate urged members of the public to disregard such news and warned all those circulating deliberate falsehood to refrain from such acts.
Irrespective of his dismissal of the reports about his impeachment, Senator Akpabio nevertheless referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Public Services for Further investigation and legislative action.
“[They said DSS] has surrounded the national assembly to possibly stop the impeachment of principal officers.
“There is no limit to social media… we are sitting down here doing our work peacefully oblivious of the mischief.
“Which committee do we refer this to? (laughter).
“I understand that they are being paid if they have a lot of traffic, but I hope the public is aware that this is total fake news”, Akpabio said in his dismissal of the report of his impeachment as Senate President.
