Aisha Yesufu, Atiku Mock Onanuga, Say No One Feeling Tinubu’s Absence
Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu, has taken aim at the presidency’s assertion that there is no leadership vacuum in Nigeria despite the absence of both President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Aisha Yesufu’s remarks have ignited conversations on social media regarding the state of governance in the country following the absence of President Tinubu and his deputy from the country.
The camp of Atiku Abubakar has also weighed in on the issue agreeing with Aisha Yesufu that no one in the country is missing the absence of President Tinubu.
Currently, President Tinubu is on a two-week leave in Europe, while Vice President Shettima is on a two-day official trip to Sweden. Their simultaneous absence from Nigeria has raised concerns among citizens, with many questioning the effectiveness of governance in their absence.
In response to the criticism, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, defended the administration’s stance, assuring Nigerians that all government organs are functioning smoothly. “It is important to note that the president and vice president are fully engaged with the nation’s affairs, even while they are away. There is no leadership vacuum in the country,” Onanuga stated. He added that President Tinubu is expected to return soon before his vacation ends.
However, Yesufu took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer her sharp critique, stating, “There cannot be a vacuum in something that was never there. Nobody feels the absence of seat warmers.”
Her comment has resonated with many who feel the current administration has been lacking in its leadership role, sparking debate over the direction of governance in Nigeria.
Also responding to the Onanuga clarification, the camp of Atiku Abubakar replying through Phrank Shaibu, special assistant, Special Communications, posted thus:
The dual absence of Tinubu and his deputy continues to fuel discussions as spiked by Aisha Yesufu. Citizens are now eagerly awaiting their return and hoping for more decisive leadership moving forward.
