Rivers Monarchs Back Governor Fubara

The Rivers State Traditional Rulers’ Council (RSTRC) has shown strong support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara by passing a vote of confidence in his leadership.

The council also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and address the rising political tensions in the state.

At an extraordinary meeting held on October 8, 2024, the council, led by Chairman His Majesty Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, reviewed the situation in Rivers State and expressed solidarity with the governor. Eze Wodo, the Eze Oha Apara IV of Apara Kingdom, stressed the importance of peace during the current political unrest in the state.

The council appreciated the government’s efforts in improving security, noting the better performance of the police and other security agencies. They also praised Governor Fubara for handling the local government elections on October 5, 2024, which were conducted peacefully despite security challenges.

In their statement, the council said, “We pass a vote of confidence on His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for his leadership and commitment to the peace and prosperity of Rivers State. We will continue to support the governor in all his policies and programs throughout his tenure.”

The traditional rulers urged President Tinubu to ensure that his actions and those of his associates do not worsen the political crisis in Rivers State. They called on all political players to put aside their differences for the sake of unity and peace.

In response, Governor Fubara thanked the traditional rulers for their support and assured them that his administration respects the traditional institution. He promised to avoid any actions that would undermine the authority of the traditional leaders. Fubara also credited the peaceful local government elections to divine intervention.

The governor further announced the approval of official vehicles for the monarchs and directed the Secretary to the State Government to handle the distribution of either vehicles or cash alternatives, depending on the needs of the recipients. He added, “Your visit today reassures me that we have the backing of Rivers people. You, the traditional rulers, represent the heart of our communities, and we are committed to upholding and respecting your esteemed positions.”
