Man Robbing Churchgoers Shot Dead

Security operatives shot and killed one member of an armed robbery gang on Sunday morning as they attempted to rob people heading to church.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. in the Ifite area of Awka as residents were on their way to Sunday Mass.

One of the victims, who works at a popular joint in Awka, shared her experience, stating that the gang consisted of three men, but only one was killed during the robbery attempt. She recalled, “I was coming back from work, and another girl who was going to church had just stepped out of her lodge when the three men approached us, asking what we had in our bags.”

She continued, “The girl going to church quickly threw her bag into the bush, but the robbers searched my bag, took my phone and money, and then started chasing us. The girl ran towards her lodge, while I ran into the bush.”

While hiding, one of the robbers tried to find her, but a local security guard intervened, shooting and killing the robber. The other two robbers managed to escape.

The body of the robber was still at the scene when the report was filed.
