Labour Party Crisis Deepens As Youth Leaders Disown Abure And Ahanotu

The crisis within the Labour Party (LP) has deepened as the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties (FNYLPP) has disowned Julius Abure and Kennedy Ahanotu from their roles as national chairman and national youth leader, respectively. This development raises further concerns about the internal issues facing the party.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Forum cited several allegations, including the expiration of their tenures and other irregularities associated with Abure’s leadership. His position has been a point of contention since his tenure was said to have expired on June 8, 2024.

Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, the spokesman for the Forum, made it clear that Kennedy Ahanotu, who serves as the Deputy National Secretary of the Labour Party, is warned to stop referring to himself as the National Youth Leader. He stated, “Mr. Kennedy Ahanotu, the Deputy National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), is hereby warned to desist from presenting himself as the National Youth Leader of the Labour Party, or else face consequences.”

Aphimia also addressed Julius Abure, urging him to cease calling himself the National Chairman of the Labour Party. He explained, “Their illegal and unlawful tenure expired on June 8, 2024. The National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Labour Party on September 4, 2024, appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Chairperson and Secretary to lead a 29-member Labour Party CTC to conduct congresses for the All-Inclusive and Expansive National Convention 2025.”
