Media personality Toke Makinwa has addressed rumors about a secret marriage during her 40th birthday thanksgiving celebration in Lagos, putting the speculation to rest.

GWG.ng reports that the rumors began circulating on social media on Sunday night, suggesting that Toke had secretly wed entertainment mogul Farouk Umar at the Oriental Hotel on Victoria Island.

The speculation grew after a viral video showed the two in intimate moments, with Toke wearing a white dress and Farouk dressed in traditional buba and sokoto attire. However, Toke used her birthday party as an opportunity to clear the air, explaining that Farouk is nothing more than a close friend who had supported her during difficult times.

Speaking openly, she said, “On Obasanjo’s internet, they said I got married to this guy. This guy is my best friend. Listen, on Toke Makinwa’s internet, they said I married Farouk. Farouk, my friend, ore mi… this is my nigga and my friend, my brother, who wan marry you. Farouk held me down when there was nobody.”

Toke also reflected on her previous marriage to Maje Ayida, which ended in 2017 after their 2014 marriage was troubled by infidelity. She expressed gratitude for the strength she gained from that painful experience, sharing how deeply it affected her and how she once doubted her ability to survive the ordeal.

“Jesus, you comforted me when my friends left me. Jesus, you saw me through a divorce. When I thought I was going to die, when I did not know if I was going to wake up the next day, somehow you held me together. Even when I showed a frail faith, you knew I was not frail. Somehow, you made me a tiger. You are the one that liveth. You are the one that will never fail,” she said, expressing her faith and resilience.

Toke also took a moment to appreciate the friends who stood by her during her difficult times, acknowledging their unwavering support. “I thank God for all my friends here. I thank God that I am not looking out to look for you guys; I am looking up. I have not been the best of friend for you guys, but somehow, you see something, and I am grateful,” she concluded.

In this candid reflection, Toke Makinwa addressed the rumors head-on while showing gratitude for the strength she has gained through her personal challenges and the support she has received from close friends and faith.
