PDP NEC: New Battle Line Drawn Against Damagun In Federal High Court
A court order seeking to pave way for the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC meeting to hold as scheduled on Thursday, October 24, 2024 has been launched.
GWG.ng reports that the court process has the backing of the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, PDP GF, Senator Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
According to the court papers sited by the news website, the process was launched at a Federal High Court in Gusau under Justice Salim Ibrahim.
The court documents indicate that a request was filed at 8:30 AM on 22nd October 2024 by Imam Auwal, seeking a special order to ensure that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting takes place.
The meeting is intended to facilitate the removal of Damagum from office by the NEC.
The plaintiff is asking the court to determine whether the NEC is violating the party’s constitution by failing to appoint a substantive National Chairman from the North-Central zone following the removal of Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, who hails from that zone.
Additionally, Imam Auwal seeks a ruling on whether the actions of the acting National Chairman, which appear to frustrate efforts to appoint a substantive National Chairman, are unlawful, unconstitutional, and an abuse of office. He also questions whether the suspension of the National Vice Chairman (South East Zone) under Section 57 (3) of the Peoples Democratic Party Constitution (2017, as amended) has effectively terminated his membership in the party and all its organs, including the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, and the National Convention.
