Halima Abubakar is seeking ₦30 billion in damages for the harm done to her reputation by Actors Guild of Nigeria President, Emeka Rollas

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has filed a defamation lawsuit against the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas. This comes after Rollas announced her indefinite suspension from the guild through his social media handle.

Halima was accused of spreading false information about AGN members, particularly rumors involving extramarital affairs with prominent individuals in the entertainment industry.

In response, Halima’s legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, issued a letter condemning the actions of the AGN President, accusing him of deliberately damaging her reputation. According to Halima, she was never contacted by the AGN or given an opportunity to defend herself before the news of her suspension was shared on social media.

She expressed her disappointment, saying, “The false narrative was intended to denigrate her, cast aspersions on her, and stir up social opprobrium.”

Halima Abubakar demanded the immediate removal of the defamatory publication and a public apology from Rollas on his Instagram page.

The letter from her legal team further read: “Our client has been battling health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment during her recovery to spread a negative and false narrative. This has caused her emotional and psychological distress and harmed her reputation among right-thinking members of society.”

In addition to the apology, Halima Abubakar is seeking ₦30 billion in damages for the harm done to her reputation by Rollas. The letter also warned, “Unless these demands are met within seven days, we are instructed by our client to pursue appropriate legal action.”
