Why Court Rejected PDP Govs Forum Request on NEC MEETING
A Federal High Court in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, has rejected a request for an exparte order that would have allowed the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed as scheduled on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
The PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, sought the order in an effort to resolve ongoing disputes regarding control of the party. GWG.ng reports that the request for the exparte order was filed early Tuesday morning, around 8:30 AM, by Imam Auwal, a member of the PDP based in Gusau.
The Governors’ Forum aimed to bypass an existing order from a Federal High Court in Abuja that prohibits the removal of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Justice Salim Ibrahim declined to grant the exparte order, stating that the case would be adjourned until Friday, October 25, 2024, for further proceedings.
This decision reflects the ongoing turmoil within the PDP as various factions vie for influence and control.
