Sonia Ighalo Fumes Over Advice From Troll

Sonia, the former wife of Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo, has responded sharply to a social media troll who mocked her for not moving on after her split from the football star.

The exchange began when a troll messaged Sonia, accusing her of becoming irrelevant and turning into an “overnight motivational speaker.” The troll insinuated that Sonia should move on as her ex-husband has seemingly done.

“Madam, rest. You are no longer relevant. You’ve turned into a motivational speaker. Rest, please. Your ex has moved on, why not do the same?” the troll wrote, concluding with a remark, “Water in your mouth will soon dry up.”

In a firm clapback, Sonia advised the troll to focus on her own life, implying that the troll’s bitterness might be a barrier to receiving help from others. Sonia questioned the audacity of the troll’s intrusion into her private messages, calling out the insult and adding a harsh remark about the troll’s appearance.

“Go and fix your roof, you poor troll. I could have been your helper now, but your smelly mouth won’t let you. Goat. What gave you the temerity to come to my DM looking like someone with a cognitive disability?” Sonia retorted.

Reflecting on the encounter in another post, Sonia expressed her dismay at how women are often the ones trolling other women. She touched on the harsh societal stigma that divorced women face, particularly in Africa, where divorce is often considered a taboo subject. Sonia pointed out that many women stay in toxic marriages due to societal pressure.

“It’s always women trolling other women for me! The societal antagonism and stigma directed toward divorced women are deeply concerning. In Africa, people see divorce as a taboo, and as a result, women prefer staying in dysfunctional marriages over getting divorced,” she wrote.

Sonia made it clear that she wouldn’t be shamed for choosing peace over wealth, issuing a stern warning to the troll: “You won’t troll me for choosing peace over riches. I’ll come for you and your generation. I grew up in Europe; we see life differently over here.”

A History of Drama

Sonia and Jude Ighalo got married in 2009 but separated in 2020 after a decade of marriage. Despite the split, the pair’s relationship has been marred by social media drama, with Sonia frequently taking jabs at her ex-husband. Last year, Sonia shed light on their marital status, revealing that they initially separated in 2019 but reconciled briefly in 2021 before ending things again in 2022 due to issues with Ighalo’s family.

Recently, Sonia urged Jude to collect her bride price, claiming her father had single-handedly funded their traditional marriage. She accused Jude’s family of disrespecting her father by failing to show up for a planned farewell event three years ago, despite all the arrangements she made.

This came shortly after Sonia publicly apologized to Ighalo, acknowledging that ending relationships has always been challenging for her. She revealed that despite their divorce, both of them tried to make their marriage work for the sake of their children. Sonia assured Jude that she would continue to be there for him.
