A viral video showing a public altercation between Nigerian Police officers and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State has drawn the attention of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun. The IGP condemned the officers’ behavior, calling it unprofessional.

GWG.ng reports that the clash followed an attempt by the policemen to arrest some men at Elizabeth Housing Estate, Osogbo who were alleged not to have paid for sexual services rendered by some sex workers.

Following the clash, Egbetokun ordered a thorough investigation led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11, Osogbo, to uncover the cause of the clash. In his response, the IGP emphasized the importance of “esprit de corps” — a sense of unity and respect among security agencies. He highlighted that such teamwork is vital for effective and professional service in Nigeria’s security landscape.

In an address, Egbetokun reiterated the need for strong collaboration across security agencies. “At this moment, I must stress the importance of ‘esprit de corps’ — the spirit of camaraderie, teamwork, and shared purpose that binds us within our organization and with our colleagues across other agencies,” he said of the clash between the police and the NSCDC. “It is essential for the successful execution of our duties that we honor and respect all colleagues and members of other services within the confines of the law.”

The IGP also reassured the public, emphasizing that under his leadership, the Nigeria Police will continue to work closely with other security bodies to maintain peace and security nationwide. “The Nigeria Police Force under my leadership will continually work in collaboration with relevant sister security agencies towards ensuring we achieve a safe and secure environment for our dear country, Nigeria,” he assured in a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
