Man Strangling Wife

A 30-year-old man named Sunday Itumo has been sent to prison on allegations that he strangled his wife, Ngozi, in their home located in Igweledoha, Ngbo community, Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State.

Itumo appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki on Wednesday, facing a single charge of murder. However, Magistrate Ojemba Isu-Oko did not accept Itumo’s plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction in the case.

Magistrate Isu-Oko then instructed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal review and further advice. The court set the next hearing for November 22.

Insp. Sabastine Alumona, representing the police, informed the court that the alleged incident took place on October 4 in Igweledoha, Ngbo community. Alumona claimed that Itumo caused his wife’s death through manual strangulation and severe physical assault.

According to Alumona, the offense falls under Section 319 (1) of the criminal code law, cap 33, Vol. 1, Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

At the time of the hearing, Itumo did not have any legal representation.
