Eid el-Kabir Public Holiday

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has declared Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, as public holidays to encourage full participation in the upcoming local government elections.

The public holidays announcement was made on Wednesday through Nsa Gill, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary.

The holidays aim to provide residents ample time to travel to their voting units for the election, which will take place across the state’s 18 local government areas on November 2.

Governor Otu emphasized the importance of voter turnout, urging residents to use the opportunity to engage in the electoral process and ensure their voices are heard.

“In an effort to ensure widespread participation in the November 2 local government elections, His Excellency, Governor Senator Prince Bassey Otu, has declared October 31 and November 1 as public holidays across Cross River State,” the statement read.

According to the governor, the break is particularly helpful for those needing to travel from Calabar to remote parts of the state to vote. He encouraged all citizens to actively engage in the democratic process, highlighting the essential role of civic participation in shaping local governance.
