New Questions House Of Reps Member Defects (Video)
The defection of Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi was announced by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during a session, where he read the lawmaker’s letter to the House.
A significant political shift took place in Nigeria’s House of Representatives with the defection of Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, representing the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.
The defection of Gumi was announced by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during a session, where he read the lawmaker’s letter to the House.
Gumi explained that his decision to leave the PDP was due to internal conflicts within the party, which he felt prevented him from effectively serving his constituents. “The instability had left my constituency without a reliable party structure, impacting governance,” he stated.
He further explained the situation within the PDP in his area, saying, “The PDP has two chairmen in my constituency. One was unconstitutionally removed, while the other decamped with me. This has left the party without structure in my constituency.”
GWG.ng reports that the defection marks another scar as questions are bound to arise over the constitutionality of the move of the lawmaker.
