Nigerian Lady Accused Of Forging UNICAL Certificate To Get NSITF Job Arraigned
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Tiemo Joy Alabogha, an employee of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), on six charges related to forgery, intent to commit fraud, and providing false statements.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, ICPC’s Acting Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare, confirmed that Alabogha appeared before Justice Ogbonaya at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Zuba on October 30, 2024.
The ICPC alleges that Alabogha presented a forged Bachelor of Education certificate from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to secure her employment with the NSITF. She also reportedly submitted a fraudulent confirmation letter that falsely validated her degree, in an effort to authenticate the fake qualification. These actions, according to ICPC, violate Section 364 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 25(1)(a) and Section 68 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
During the hearing, Alabogha’s defense counsel requested bail, a motion that was not opposed by ICPC’s prosecuting counsel, Aniekan Ekong. However, Ekong asked that the bail conditions ensure Alabogha’s availability for future court proceedings. Following this, Justice Ogbonaya ordered Alabogha’s remand at the Suleja Custodial Facility until a ruling on her bail application is determined.
The court has set February 19, 2025, for the hearing of the substantive case.
