Teen Protester Collapses in Abuja Court Amid Trial for Participating in #EndBadGovernance Protest (Video)

In a dramatic scene at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, an underage protester reportedly collapsed in the courtroom ahead of trial proceedings.

These protests, which began in August, were organized by youth groups critical of the worsening insecurity and economic hardship allegedly brought on by President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

Photos and videos captured in the courtroom reveal harrowing images of some of the detained teenagers—who have been in police custody since August—sprawled on the floor, appearing visibly distressed. In one video, fellow detainees attempted to assist the minors who were writhing on the floor, while in another, a lawyer was seen trying to revive a young protester who had collapsed while standing in the dock.

The minors’ detention was sanctioned by Justice Emeka Nwite, who, in response to an ex-parte application from the Nigeria Police Force, ordered that the protesters be held for 60 days to allow for further investigation. Authorities have alleged that the detained youth attempted to undermine democratic governance, though details of the charges remain limited.
