Lady Who Allegedly Poisoned Ex-Boyfriend And Friends Now In Police Custody
The Edo State Police Command has detained 16-year-old Aisha Suleiman, suspected of poisoning her ex-boyfriend, Emmanuel, and four other young men in the Afashio community of Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State.
The tragic incident came to light on October 26, 2024, when Emmanuel’s father, Mr. Elogie Ezekiel, arrived at his son’s apartment around 6:30 a.m. and made a grim discovery. He initially found the lifeless body of Nurudeen, a young man, lying in the corridor. As he moved further inside, he saw Emmanuel, 19, and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Ada Samuel, lying unresponsive on the bed. Two more friends, brothers Samuel and Jeffrey Ayegwalo, were found unconscious in the sitting room. All five were quickly transported to the hospital, where doctors confirmed they had died before arrival.
Local sources revealed that the victims had recently eaten a pot of pepper soup allegedly prepared by Suleiman for the group of friends.
Three days after the incident, the investigation took a new turn. Reports emerged that Suleiman was on the verge of being lynched by a group of young men from the community who believed she was responsible for the poisoning. The police, alerted to the situation, quickly intervened. Officers from the Jattu Division arrived at the scene, safely took Suleiman into custody, and transported her to the police station.
SP Moses Yamu, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the case had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full investigation. “The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation,” Yamu said.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru Ozigi, ordered a detailed investigation, instructing officers to explore all leads to uncover the true cause of death. He also warned against any form of mob action, urging the community to allow the police to handle the investigation. CP Ozigi reassured the public that justice would be pursued diligently and without bias.
