Nollywood Mourns: Dimeji Ajibola Passes Away At 39

Popular Nollywood director and editor Dimeji Ajibola has passed away, reportedly in the early hours of November 3, 2024, after battling an undisclosed illness.

His death has deeply affected the Nigerian film community, prompting emotional reactions from fellow actors. Notably, actor Jim Iyke expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt Instagram post, struggling to comprehend the loss. He noted that Ajibola was working on an important project before his passing, stating, “I CAN’T MAKE SENSE OF IT. TO MAKE SENSE OF IT IS TO ACCEPT IT. TO ACCEPT IT IS TO QUESTION GOD… THIS PROJECT IS YOUR LAST LEGACY BRO… IN YOUR WORDS, ‘This is the project every filmmaker waits for.’ THE WORLD WILL, YET AGAIN, WITNESS YOUR SINGULAR BRILLIANCE AND AMAZING PERSONALITY… REST IN GOD’S BOSSOM D. Ajibola was well-known for directing the acclaimed Nigerian crime thriller series ‘Shanty Town’. His influence in the industry extended beyond this series, as he also directed the award-winning urban musical film ‘Hoodrush’ in 2012, which won Best Movie at the Green Me Film Festival in Germany.

Confirming the news of Ajibola’s death, actor Bolanle Ninalowo shared a tribute on Instagram, stating, “I love you, brother, and I miss you, Dimeji Ajibola. May God heal your family and loved ones. Till we meet again, didi dox, rest on the champ.”

Dimeji Ajibola’s impact on the Nigerian movie industry was profound. He was celebrated not only for his work on ‘Shanty Town’ but also for his contributions to film, animation, visual effects, and interactive media. Educated at renowned institutions such as the New York Film Academy and Animation Mentor in San Francisco, he was recognized as an innovator and creative force in storytelling.
