Storm As Presidency Debunks Lies Over Appointments
Outrage raged at the weekend after Sunday Dare made a defence of the 22 major appointments in the security services. The move to claim that the Yoruba were not disproportionately favoured, however, revealed the marginalisation of the Southeast and South-South regions which together had 2 of the 22 appointments shared among the six geopolitical zones.
Newly appointed Special Adviser to the President on information and national orientation, Mr Sunday Dare had in a rebuff to insinuations that President Bola Tinubu had flooded Yoruba in the security services inevitably exposed the new dimensions to the appointments by the Tinubu administration.
Dare had said:
Facts do not lie. Below we see laid bare the facts about the regional outlook of President Tinubu’s appointments within 20 security agencies. The label of him favouring Yorubas in the Security set up does not fit. Nigeria we hail thee!
The revelation that the South-South which is generally acknowledged as the treasure base of the nation has only one of the 22 appointments who still reports to a superior officer from another zone has stirred commentary on the post by Sunday Dare.
The Southeast which is one of the three major ethnic groups in the country was also revealed to have produced only one of the 22 slots.
Even more, there were also insinuations that the majority of the appointments from the North-Central were also ethnic Yoruba contradicting the claim of Sunday Dare.
GWG.ng reports that President Tinubu as governor of Lagos State and leader of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN was largely hailed for his ability to look beyond tribal sentiments in his affiliations.
GWG.ng gathered some of the reactions from Sunday Dare’s tweet on the appointments.
Sunday Dare is yet to respond to the storm over his post on the appointments.
