President Bola Tinubu has directed an Administrative Committee, led by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent arrest, detention, and treatment of minors involved in the #EndBadGovernance protests.

This move comes amid public backlash over the police’s handling of the youths.

According to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who addressed the press at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the committee’s mandate includes probing the conduct of all law enforcement agents involved in the minors’ arrest and legal processing. Any government official or law enforcement personnel found to have violated protocols will face disciplinary action.

“The President has directed that if any infractions are found to have been committed by law enforcement officials, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” said Idris. He emphasized that this investigation demonstrates the administration’s commitment to democracy, rule of law, and protecting citizens’ rights.

Additionally, the President instructed Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi to ensure the minors’ immediate release, and he tasked the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs with reuniting them with their families.

The investigation is expected to ensure accountability for the handling of the case and address concerns about excessive measures in response to protests.
