Anthony Joshua Given 48-Hour Deadline To Decide On Dubois Rematch

British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has just 48 hours to accept a rematch against Daniel Dubois, set for February.

If Joshua doesn’t agree to the terms within this timeframe, he could lose his chance to regain the championship belts that slipped away after his surprising loss to Dubois in September at Wembley Stadium.

In their previous fight, 27-year-old Dubois dominated, knocking Joshua down four times before Joshua’s team stopped the fight in the fifth round. This upset happened before a huge audience of 96,000 fans, marking a tough moment in Joshua’s career.

While there were initial plans for a rematch in Saudi Arabia next February, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has expressed reservations about the tight timeline, given Joshua’s recent performance. Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, however, is urging Joshua to decide quickly. He warned that if there’s no response within 48 hours, the rematch could be called off.

Speaking to iFLTV, Warren said, “Unless AJ gets back to us in the next 48 hours, yes,” referring to the uncertainty of the fight.

Warren emphasized his desire to finalize the match soon, saying he’d like to reach a decision by tomorrow, though it’s possible the matter could be stalled for another week.

In another perspective, Barry Hearn, the father of Joshua’s promoter, commented on the rematch’s prospects. He suggested that with the right strategy, Joshua might win a second fight against Dubois.

However, he also advised against rushing into decisions, recommending a cautious approach. “I think Dubois is dangerous, and he’s going to be super confident after the last job. I still believe AJ would probably beat him in a rematch if he boxed differently, but that’s just my opinion,” he told The Mirror.
