PDP Appoints New Chairman
The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Adamu Bako as its new chairman.
Bako, the former PDP state secretary, was chosen at the party’s congress held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Tuesday. The event was overseen by Senator Simon Mwadkwon, head of the PDP National Committee, who praised the congress as transparent and fair.
Other officials were also elected alongside Bako, including Kefas Danlami as Secretary, Yahaya Bunu as Treasurer, and Chinenege Muhammed as State Publicity Secretary. Additionally, Hannatu John was selected as State Women Leader, Bala Aron as State Legal Adviser, and Awesu Abdullahi as State Auditor. For the senatorial zones, Marshin Shema (North), Isah Bala Mangi (South), and Attahiru Osu Audu (West) will serve as vice-chairpersons.
In his first address, Bako expressed a commitment to strengthening the PDP’s influence across Nasarawa, vowing to address internal challenges and foster unity. David Ombugadu, the PDP’s 2023 Nasarawa governorship candidate, also commended the smooth conduct of the congress.
In a separate development, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is set to hold a critical Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting on November 8, 2024, after a recent court ruling redefined its leadership structure. Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, NNPP founder and BoT Life Member, announced the upcoming meeting during a media briefing in Lagos on Tuesday.
The shift in the NNPP’s governance comes after an Abia High Court judgment directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to place the party’s administration under the BoT’s control. The ruling formally empowers Aniebonam and the board to oversee the party’s strategic decisions.
Aniebonam, who also founded the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), emphasized the importance of the upcoming meeting in aligning the NNPP with the court’s directive. He described the court order as “compelling” and noted that the BoT aims to honor the decision as it shapes the party’s future direction.
