Jose Mourinho Fined, Banned

Jose Mourinho, head coach of Fenerbahce, has been fined and banned by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) following his criticism of VAR official Atilla Karaoglan after Fenerbahce’s recent match against Trabzonspor.

The incident for which Mourinho was fined arose following Fenerbahce’s dramatic win, clinched by Sofyan Amrabat’s goal in the 12th minute of stoppage time. Despite the victory, Mourinho expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating, particularly two controversial penalties awarded to Trabzonspor, which he claimed indicated bias from the VAR officials.

In response, the TFF imposed a fine of £20,178 on Mourinho, with an additional penalty of £1,300, citing his comments as “unsportsmanlike” and detrimental to the image of Turkish football. Additionally, Mourinho received a one-match ban, which prohibits him from entering the dressing room and taking his place on the touchline for the next game.

The TFF stated that Mourinho’s remarks breached the principles of sportsmanship, ethics, and fair play, underlining its stance on maintaining professionalism and respect in Turkish football.

GWG.ng reports that the fine and ban on the maverick but successful manager was not the first for Mourinho who through the years in the English Premier was severally disciplined over his comments against what he perceived as hostile actions by match officials.
