Ex-Minister Sacked By Tinubu Questions Decision (Audio)

The recently dismissed Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has alleged that political interests may have influenced his removal from office.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Gwarzo expressed surprise over his dismissal, noting that he was neither accused of wrongdoing nor evaluated for poor performance.

“I was surprised because I wasn’t found guilty of any wrongdoing or poor performance. And I was a minister of state with the senior minister who handles a large chunk of the ministry’s activities,” Gwarzo explained, raising questions about the reasons given for his sudden exit.

He revealed that President Tinubu had informed him prior to the public announcement, explaining the dismissal as an effort to balance political representation. “The President said Kano North was overloaded with political officers, hence the need to strike a balance. We gave our advice, but it was ignored,” Gwarzo said. He added that he began to suspect political interference in the decision, considering the justification provided was, in his view, weak.

Reflecting on the anticipated ministerial replacement, Gwarzo argued that the position should be filled by Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate for Kano State. “If the ministerial slot is going to Kano Central, why not consider Gawuna, who is our leader there? He should be offered the position first, unless he declines, in which case it could go to someone else,” he stated, questioning the process that led to his removal.

Gwarzo also pointed out that other APC gubernatorial candidates from states like Plateau and Zamfara were awarded federal positions following their election bids. According to him, Gawuna’s experience and status in Kano’s political landscape make him the ideal candidate for the role.
