Obaseki Okpebholo inauguration

The Edo State Government has criticized Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo and his aides, urging them to focus on preparing for what it described as their N5 billion inauguration rather than involving Governor Godwin Obaseki in their political disagreements.

In a statement, Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Media Projects, expressed disappointment over the new administration’s priorities. He criticized the incoming government for starting off with lavish spending instead of addressing key governance issues.

GWG.ng reports that the statement followed a claim by Okpebholo that Governor Obaseki had gone missing allegedly leaving the Government House in an unmarked bus.

Osagie said, “It is telling that we have returned to an era where reckless spending, celebrations, and frivolities are prioritized in Edo State governance.” He added that the exclusion of Governor Obaseki from the inauguration event is an indication of the pettiness that may define the new administration.

He further stated, “The incoming government has committed to spending N5 billion on the inauguration, with even more expected on November 12, the event day.” Osagie expressed concern, saying it is disheartening for the people of Edo to witness such excessive spending, especially after the current administration has worked to use public funds wisely for economic growth.

Osagie also pointed out the professionalism displayed by the current administration during the transition process. Unlike past transitions marked by chaos and destruction, the outgoing government has managed the handover smoothly.

He concluded by saying, “The incoming administration appears frustrated because they hoped to accuse the outgoing government of mismanagement. With no opportunity to do so, they are now making baseless accusations against Governor Obaseki.” Osagie remarked that while this attempt to shift blame was not surprising, it was disappointing.
