Oprah Finally Speaks On Reports Of Being Paid By Kamala Harris For Campaign Event

Oprah Winfrey has denied reports claiming she was paid $1 million for her involvement in a Kamala Harris campaign event, stating that she never received a “personal fee.”

When approached by a TMZ reporter on Monday, Winfrey quickly shot down the rumor, saying, “Not true – I was paid nothing, ever.” The reports had suggested that Winfrey’s media company, Harpo Productions, received the payment from Harris’s campaign for hosting a high-profile live interview in October.

Further claims spread, with some outlets suggesting Winfrey herself had been personally compensated for her participation. However, Harpo Productions issued a statement confirming that while the Harris campaign did cover the costs of the town hall event, Winfrey herself was not paid. The statement clarified, “Oprah Winfrey was at no point during the campaign paid a personal fee, nor did she receive a fee from Harpo.”

GWG.ng reports that the 2024 election saw Kamala Harris significantly outspend her opponent, Donald Trump, collecting numerous celebrity endorsements, although these efforts were not successful in securing her victory. The Examiner reported that Harris’s campaign allocated over $15 million to production costs and spent more than $654 million on advertising between July 22 and November 5.

The town hall event, which was streamed on Harris’s campaign YouTube channel, featured a star-studded lineup with celebrities like Meryl Streep, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jennifer Lopez, and Julia Roberts. It quickly became popular, garnering over 1.2 million views within just 12 hours.

During the event, Winfrey interviewed Harris about critical topics such as abortion rights, gun violence, and her future plans as president. At one point, Harris revealed she owned a gun and would defend herself if an intruder broke into her home. As the event concluded, Winfrey addressed the audience, urging them to reject the divisiveness of the political climate, saying, “This is the moment for people who are tired of all of the bickering and all of the name calling, people who are exhausted by the craziness and the made-up stories and the conspiracies.”

She continued, “You know that we can do better and that we deserve better. You know this. I know you know this… we’re better than this.”
