Primate Elijah Ayodele is urging opposition parties comprising —Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)— to unite to have any prospect of challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, stated on Tuesday that opposition political parties in Nigeria can only defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election if they form a coalition. He emphasized that without unity, efforts to unseat Tinubu would be futile.

In a statement released by his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele urged the major opposition parties—Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)—to come together and field a strong candidate. He stressed that the opposition needs to unite around a “rugged and solid” candidate to challenge the president. Otherwise, Ayodele believes it will be an easy victory for Tinubu in 2027.

Ayodele warned, saying, “If PDP, Labour, and NNPP don’t unite to form a coalition and propose one rugged and solid candidate for the 2027 presidential election, they won’t be able to unseat President Tinubu. It will be a smooth ride for the president in 2027 except there is a strong coalition from the major political parties.”

Turning specifically to the PDP, Ayodele pointed out that if the party decides to field Atiku Abubakar as their candidate, it will lead to defeat. He also made it clear that no sitting governor in the PDP has the political strength to run for president successfully in 2027. “If PDP decides to field Atiku, it will be a disaster; they will lose the election. If PDP wants to stand alone, they will run into debt, and as it stands, there is no sitting governor in the PDP with the capacity to become president. They are not strong enough,” he stated.
