Edo: Okpebholo Sends Obaseki’s Revenue Collectors Out Of Work
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered for the immediate and indefinite suspension of collection of all revenues in Edo, especially in motor parks until further notice
Governor Okpebholo has also ordered the State Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone who flouts the order.
GWG.ng reports that the order was given in a press statment made available by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
The Governor said he will review the issues surrounding the collections soon and decide on the way forward.
“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested.
“The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts the order and collects any kind of revenues on behalf of the State Government.
“The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised. He will issue new directives soon. Until then, no one is authorised to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government,” Itua said in the press statment suspending revenue collection in Edo State.
GWG.ng reports that revenue collection had in the past been used as a tool of political empowerment. The immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki had changed the system on the claim that his predecessor used it to empower political associates and introduced his own system which has now been overturned.
