The struggle of a first-class graduate selling sachet water ends as he receives an automatic job offer.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has given a direct job offer to Sham’unu Ishaq, a first-class graduate from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.

Ishaq had been selling sachet water to support his family after completing his studies. The Governor took action after learning about Ishaq’s situation, which was shared in a viral video.

According to a tweet by Isah Miqdad, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, Radda instructed his Special Assistant on Students’ Matters, Muhammad Nagaske, to verify the claim.

The university confirmed that Ishaq had indeed graduated with a First-Class degree in B.Sc (Ed.) Education/Biology in the 2021/2022 academic year. After finishing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Taraba State, Ishaq turned to selling sachet water to meet his family’s needs.

Governor Radda emphasized the importance of rewarding academic excellence. He stated, “Academic excellence should be rewarded, not relegated to the streets,” and expressed his commitment to supporting talented individuals who can contribute to the development of the state. He added, “Our administration recognizes that the future of Katsina State lies in harnessing the potential of our brightest minds.”

This job offer is part of the Governor’s broader efforts to support outstanding graduates. Between May and October 2024, Radda provided jobs to 18 graduates from institutions in the state. Just last month, he also offered automatic employment to nine top graduates from Isah Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma. Additionally, during the convocation of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in May, the Governor hired nine First-Class graduates.

The Governor’s swift response not only solved an immediate issue but also highlighted his administration’s dedication to empowering young people and advancing education. His actions reflect a strong commitment to identifying and rewarding academic excellence in Katsina State.
