Nigerians In Shock As New School Bullying Video Emerges
A disturbing new video showing a case of school bullying has emerged on the internet, reigniting concerns about the ongoing issue of bullying in Nigerian schools.
In the video, a male student is seen lying on the floor in a hostel room, surrounded by several male students who are relentlessly beating him with belts while shouting for him to cry.
The bullying escalates as more students join in, using their fists to force the victim to cry. The video, which has sparked widespread outrage, is reported to have taken place at FGC Enugu.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of bullying cases in Nigerian schools. The recent events at Lead British International School in Abuja highlight the severity of the problem. The school was shut down for three days by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, following viral videos of bullying involving some of its students.
One of the videos showed a female student being repeatedly slapped by a classmate, while another showed a male student being slapped by peers in a separate bullying incident. The videos led to public outcry, with many demanding justice for the victims.
The issue of bullying in Nigerian schools gained national attention in 2021 when Sylvester Oromoni, a student at Dowen College in Lagos, tragically died after allegedly being beaten by fellow students who had been pressuring him to join a cult group. His death sparked a nationwide conversation about the need for stronger measures to combat bullying and protect students in schools across the country.
