How PDP’s Agboola Ajayi Thrashed Gov Aiyedatiwa In Polling Unit
Voters in Ondo State turned out in large numbers on Saturday to elect a new governor who will lead the state for the next four years.
The election took place across the 18 local government areas, with citizens eager to make their choice.
As of the latest update, 54.54% of the election results had been uploaded, representing data from 2,145 polling units out of a total of 3,933 units across the state. However, none of the results from the 18 local governments had been fully updated at the time.
In early results, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Agboola Ajayi, was declared the winner in his polling unit. Agboola voted at Apoi Ward II, Unit 004, in Kiribo, within the Ese Odo local government area. He secured 194 votes, defeating his main rival, Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received only 3 votes.
Similarly, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, delivered a strong win in his polling unit. At Polling Unit 8, Ward 2, Alade Okun in Alade-Idanre, Akingbaso helped Agboola Ajayi secure a decisive victory.
The PDP candidate received 187 votes, while the APC’s candidate got just 46 votes. The Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), and the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) each secured one vote at the unit.
The voting at this particular polling unit was conducted amid concerns about potential violence. It was reported that hoodlums had surrounded the area and attempted to steal the ballot box.
Fortunately, armed policemen intervened, firing shots into the air to disperse the alleged attackers and ensure the safety of the voting process.
