OndoDecides2024: DSS Arrests Vote-Buyer With Bag Of Money
Operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a man suspected of vote-buying during the Ondo State governorship election.
The man was found carrying two bags filled with money, which authorities believe were meant to bribe voters.
According to reports from Channels TV, the arrest took place at Ward 4, Polling Unit 007, near St. Stephen’s Primary School in Akure, Ondo State, at around 9 a.m. on election day.
On the same day, the current governor of Ondo State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa, voted early in the morning. He cast his ballot at Polling Unit 05, Ward 4, in Obenla, located in Ilaje Local Government Area, at exactly 8:52 a.m.
After voting, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring the election process was smooth and well-managed, particularly in his area. He urged citizens to vote peacefully, stressing the importance of their involvement in determining the state’s future.
Elsewhere in Ondo State, reports indicated that election materials and INEC staff arrived early at several polling units, contributing to a smooth start to the voting process. Security forces were also deployed across the state to maintain order and safety during the election.
The Ondo State governorship election has garnered widespread attention, with Governor Aiyedatiwa and other candidates from different political parties competing for the position of state leader.
